I’m honored to be part of ByAnnie’s Sew Pink Initiative 2025, a month dedicated to raising awareness for breast cancer and encouraging early detection and proactive care. This year, I made a special version of my Pallas Pouch—a small, practical bag with big heart.
For this project, I used my favorite hot pink fabric (a deadstock fabric I found at my local quilt shop) to represent the strength, courage, and hope embodied by the breast cancer awareness ribbon. On the front, I added a paper-pieced ribbon block, a free pattern from Sewfinity, a small detail that carries a powerful message: every stitch can tell a story of love, support, and perseverance. I made the 6'' block at add to my Pallas Pouches pattern. I made the Large size. I loved how detailed and helpful Angela's pattern was for cutting pieces for using in the process of making this FPP block. I used my favorite MAV seam roller and it turned out so well.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but the message is important all year long. Nearly everyone has been touched by breast cancer in some way—whether through a family member, friend, or community member. Taking time to learn about self-exams, schedule regular screenings, and support those navigating treatment can make a real difference.
As a maker I'm grateful for this unique way to show care—with fabric, thread, and time stitching up and sharing this project. We can all contribute, whether it’s sewing a gift for someone in treatment, donating to organizations supporting research, or simply wearing pink to start a conversation, each small action adds up
Creating this pouch reminded me that handmade items can carry more than just essentials—they can carry hope.
Let’s continue to stitch with purpose, raise awareness, and encourage one another to take care of our health and our hearts. I heard something once from someone on social media about how we care our greatest advocates for ourselves, especially when it comes to our health in the medical world. Let us show more love and care in every way to our hearts and bodies.
