Lucky for me my favorite local quilt shop ordered the line in. I saw this quilt at Market in Tula’s Booth… SO that is where I began. The quilt pattern is called Victory Garden by Busy Bee Designs. Tula made other adaptions to the pattern to make it look true to the Union Jack flag. I stuck to the pattern as closely as I could, although there are a couple minor changes:
1: I decided instead of picking just 15 prints like the pattern calls for, I collected 15 “main prints” 15 “solids” and 15 “small prints” I liked having the variety, and loved being able to use every single Elizabeth print in my quilt. I matched one of each of the 3 sets for each of the Union Jack blocks.
2: I made one other change to the pattern to accommodate the adorable Elizabeth faces as the corner stones in the quilt. I fussy cut the “16th Century Selfie” print to 3.5” squares. which then led me to enlarge the sashing to a width of 3.5” I left off the wide border and continued the corner stones to the borders as well.
And voila, simple as that.
I am SO happy with how my quilt turned out, I LOVE LOVE IT.
I had heard mixed reviews of the pattern, so I wanted to see for myself the results. The one complaint I had heard about the quilt pattern was that there was a lot of scrap fabric left over. I became determined to figure out how to use up all my scraps so that I could show people what to do with the extra.
I also made this fun table topper as well. It was fun to be creative and figure out the uses of the extra pieces. I still have a few more scraps that I am playing with to see what other fun creative projects I can come up with!
This quickly became the quilt that keeps on giving! The challenge to use up all the leftover scraps was a fun one! I hope you have enjoyed checking them out and are inspired to keep creating with this wonderful fabric!
As if the front of this quilt wasn’t enough… check out the Tula Pink Quilt Backing! Tula has some pretty incredible quilt backing sold at the iheartTULAPINK Shop. Check them out!
