I’m so excited this day is finally here! The idea for this pattern was born over two year ago. I first came across the design idea while visiting New York on New Years Eve in 2017. It was one of the coldest New Years’ in 100 years (much to my dismay as a sunshine-loving girl). One of my favorite things to do while traveling is take pictures of shapes that could serve as quilt design ideas. I think I just always seem to have quilts on my brain. We walked through Central Park and spotted some brick that inspired this design!
Now you know why it’s called New York Lattice. What a time to release this pattern! There is so much going on in the world, and there is especially serious turmoil happening in NYC, a city that so many people love (myself included). After listening to an inspiring podcast with Brene’ Brown and Alicia Keys speaking of NYC’s strength and resilience, I thought it would be a great idea to give a little to the city. I will be donating 20% of all pattern sales this week to New York City’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund.
I’m very grateful for the hard work of my pattern testers. They provided feedback and a very quick turnaround. Shout out to @ifyoudontsew, @otterpopmom, @deblayton0423, @marmalademoodquilts, @whitney_quilts_a_lot, @moderntextiles, @kelseyholmesdesign, @jellyquilts and @lindajcap. As you an see in their samples, there is a variety of ways to make this quilt, each of which result in a completely different look:
This pattern was written with ALL the tips and tricks you need to make the quilt ⚡lightning⚡ fast! It is almost entirely strip-pieced. As an entirely block-based design, you need only finish your blocks, sew them together and—voila—a completed quilt! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Here are the few versions I’ve made so far:
I have even more variations planned—one specifically for an upcoming QUILT-ALONG! Sign up to get on the mailing list so you can get all the details and keep yourself busy while you’re at home during quarantine. #NewYorkLatticeQAL starts the week of April 27th. So grab your pattern and start gathering your supplies. Stay tuned for a schedule coming soon!
XOXO Kait
